Eloise Theisen speaks to ecancer at ONS 2019 about the potential benefits of cannabis legalisation to both patients and oncology professionals.
Eloise outlines some of the usual arguments made for and against cannabis legalisation, as well as the past and current laws regarding cannabis use in the United States. She also debunks some of the common misunderstandings around this topic.
She explains that there are already cancer patients that are using cannabis, and that legalisation is likely to create a safer environment to provide it to patients. She argues that nurses could be provided with more thorough guidelines and training, in order to provide suitable patients with appropriate resources and products.
Eloise concludes that oncology professionals need to destigmatise cannabis and start treating it as a medicine, and that she hopes for federal de-scheduling in the future.
